Do you set effective New Year resolutions?

So, 2014 is just around the corner; are you ready for it? Are you ready to step up to the plate and make this ‘your best year ever’? I’m sure you went through a similar optimistic process last New Year’s eve and I’m sure that you managed to make some real changes this year. Before I tell you about a couple of my own strategies for creating meaningful New Year resolutions (and yes, I DO believe this can be a useful exercise!) have a go at this. Take a look back at 2013 and make a note – mentally or on paper – of what you HAVE achieved. Forget about… Read the full article »

5 must-dos for the Christmas period

These next couple of weeks are going to be a bit nuts for you I’m sure, in fact the craziness has probably already started. Loads of my clients and members have been saying how they’ve had the mother of all runs of Christmas parties and socials, it seems non-stop. Who said Christmas was a time for relaxing! And of course with all the parties comes all the food and the booze which, well let’s face it, you’re going to eat aren’t you. On the wagon

I use the phrase ‘get back on the wagon’ from time to time with reference to nutrition and exercise. Really I just don’t take it much further than just the analogy of either being focused or distracted, but one of our previous Kick Start members has added some more detail to the picture. ‘In the event of a drop in cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the panel above your head. Please fit your own mask before attending to others.’ Obviously if you pass out from lack of oxygen you ain’t going to be much help to anybody else in an emergency. Selfish though it may sound, if you want to help other people you have to put yourself first, whether you’re stuck on a plane in an emergency descent or just trying to juggle all the extra demands there seem to be this time of the year. Ask yourself this: What kind of person are you when you’re exercising regularly and… Read the full article »

Take Massive Action

I went to my first ever awards ceremony last Thursday, as Ugg Foods were a finalist in the Federation of Small Businesses Awards for Bucks County. I’m the health & fitness director of the company; a great little set up that creates the most amazing grain & sugar free cake & bread mixes (in other words, healthy cake!) Ugg had entered the category for best new business, so about 8 of us from the team went along for the big fancy dinner and presentation. There were a couple of hundred people there, big stage, spotlights, lectern, proper black tie do… I’m more used to mincing around in a tracksuit but… Read the full article »
